An evening meal at Aynho was an utter disaster. 90 minutes passed after our friends had got their main course and we were still waiting, so we told the pub to keep it, and gave up. However, whilst we were waiting , we did meet one of the canals group - he came and introduced himself. It was he who had introduced us to the signwriter that we employed to put Hailey Wood's name on the cabin sides. (A nicely done job).

At Banbury, the infamous lift bridge at the tail of the lock can't be held up by one person alone - another needs to be co-opted! Good planning, that. The site, and sight, of Tooley's yard is heart-breaking - modern commercial yuck surrounding and overwhelming the desolate wreckage that's all that remains of the famous yard.

But Cropredy IS a lovely village, and the Spar shop alongside the bridge has a great stock - even windlasses!
